December 2015 Chapter Update: Chapter Happenings

Cranbrook/Fernie Chapter
Each year, the Cranbrook/ Fernie Chapter of CPF enters a French Immersion float in the Cranbrook Christmas parade. This year’s event took place on November 30 and was a great success, the kids loved waving from the float with Bonhomme walking and waving alongside! The French Immersion float helps to keep enthusiasm strong for the program and encourages young families who are watching the event to consider enrolling their kids in French Immersion. A small handout is passed out to families with very young children, which give a short summary of where French Immersion is offered in the area and where to go for more information. The float is more than just promoting the program. The decorating afternoon is a fun way for parents to meet and socialize outside of ‘meetings’ with hot chocolate and cookies. And the kids love to get a candy cane and ride on the float!

Prince Rupert Chapter
Held a French Movie Night Prince Rupert Secondary School. The popcorn stand was very popular with the French Immersion students! Donated baked goods were sold to raise bursaries for French Immersion graduates.

Burnaby Chapter
The Burnaby Chapter recently held a cultural festival called Fête des Arts where they help organize 3 French performances for 3 elementary schools and all 3 secondary schools.  They also ran another successful and informative French Parents Survival Night.  Also, their fall session of French lessons for parents is winding down this month.

North Vancouver Chapter
Reps enjoyed tourtière and other fine French foods at its December Chapter Meeting and annual Christmas party in the festively “Francophile Room” which was graciously offered to CPF North Van by North Shore Pôle Francophone (a local French tutoring centre). After socializing and discussing CPF matters, reps were introduced to the joys of French karaoke!
