Canadian Parents for French BC & Yukon is a parent-led, non-profit organization that has worked for 40 years to provide French-language educational, social, cultural and sporting activities for youth.

Through our local chapters, CPF BC & Yukon provides support, information and resources for parents with children learning French through an immersion, intensive or core program. We work with school boards, teachers, parent advisory councils and the federal and provincial governments to suggest and monitor policies and programs that affect access and quality of our children’s French educational programs.

French outside the classroom

CPF works with parents to fund and organize a range of events, from French summer camps and year-round sporting events to public-speaking competitions with thousands of dollars in prizes, film festivals, concerts and parent workshops. We also offer bursaries to students interested in teaching French in BC or Yukon. We monitor how federal and provincial educational dollars are invested in French programs in your community. We help raise awareness about the benefits of second-language learning for all children.

Nation-wide support

Our organization is part of a network of provincial and territorial branches that stretch from coast to coast to coast, with the national office being located in Ottawa. While our branch office is in the Lower Mainland, we have more than 45 chapters in communities across the region, organizing activities, supporting parents in their efforts to help their children with French, and advocating for strong French-second language programs in their community.

CPF believes in a bilingual Canada where young Canadians have the opportunity to learn both of Canada’s official languages, English and French. We believe every child has the right to become a bilingual citizen through French second language programs such as the French Immersion program and the FSL/Core French program.
