Description: Cote d’ivoire performer Fana Soro, the group leader of Masabo, is a hereditary master of the balafon, West Africa’s big wooden xylophone. Bilingual show and french workshops.Entire school was up dancing. Used big maps to teach about french around the world. Teachers bring kids by the map. Countries around the world in French.
Age: English and French immersion about 250 kids, best thing to do is be inclusive of all children to enhance all french. Links to unity in the school.
Impact: Gets kids up and dancing in a big way, teaches about french around the world & creates unity in the school amongst participating students.
Organizing Notes: Cost: $8 adult/$5 child/$20 family of 4/reserve tix for low income tix anonymously – some french incorporatred. Did community performance to off-set the costs. Met all costs. Other Notes: best thing to do is be inclusive of all children to enhance all french.

Name: Author Brigitte Marleau Author visit
Description: Author Brigitte Marleau visited the classrooms of students in grades 3 to 6 at Ecole Mountainview. Grades 3 and 4 read from her books and discussed how to write, ie:ideas/editing.
Older grades did similar sessions about vocabulary choice, editing and how to conceptualize a book. The students enjoyed this author so much, the school has purchased the books by her.
Age: Elementary school (Grade 3-6)
Impact: Principal Maxine Champion says, “This was one of those times that was successful for both the teachers and the students-all were engaged by the author”.

Description: Marc Tardif offert an excellent magicien show both in French and English since we are a dual track school.
Age: k-7
Impact: Kids really appreciate the interaction they had with him and how they needed to use their French language to communicate with him. Also, he share with the students his culture by share some stories.

Description: Story-telling thru string! English and French workshops. Every grade was taught a difffernt story with strings. Kids of all ages were teaching each other the string stories they had learnt.

Impact: Even long after the session was done, kids were still showing each other all they had learnt … with a piece of string! Amazing, creative, and huge engagement and interest from students!
