Watching French movies at home is a fun way to enrich French studies in a relaxed environment!
Here are some resources to help you find French films to watch with your kids on DVD or online:
- Check your library for selections from past chapter-hosted film festivals such as Le Coq de St Victor, Louis Cyr, Noémie le secret, Ernest et Célestine, Belle et Sebastien
- L’office national du film du Canada (National Film Board of Canada) has a great selection of films in French
- Talk in French: 10 Child-Friendly French Movies
- Tou.tv has many French films for children available on its streaming site. Paid subscription required (free with some cable packages). Click on the “Films” tab in the Jeunesse section.
- Le Centre Culturel Francophone de Vancouver has an extensive collection of French DVDs (free loans for members)
- The Alliance Française also has DVDs available for borrowing by members
- Check out your local library’s online catalogue, many libraries have created lists of French films for children and adults, or ask your local librarian
- Visit bibliothequevirtuelle.ca where you will find the online catalogues of several BC Francophone Societies’ libraries
