Concours d’art oratoire

The Concours d’art oratoire has proven to be highly beneficial for students as it:

• stimulates their interest in learning French;
• improves their speaking and pronunciation skills;
• offers them the experience of speaking French in public;
• provides an opportunity to foster a community of active French language learners; and
• demonstrates the relevance of French language instruction in the ‘real world.’

First, students must prepare their speech presentations. These presentations will then be judged within their own province/territory.

Grade 11 & 12 students who place 1st in each of the categories will move on to the Virtual National finals.

Students advancing to the Virtual National Final competition may submit a recorded video of their speech for submission.

Students from BC and the Yukon compete within pre-determined categories:

• Core French
• Intensive/Extended French
• Early and Late Immersion
• Francophone

Please note: the appropriate category in which the student competes is not necessarily the program they are enrolled in at school, as previous French experiences (e.g., exchange programs, etc.) are also taken into consideration. It is crucial to be consistent with the Category Criteria, as failure to do so may result in disqualification at the Provincial and National CPF Concours d’art oratoire levels. 

The CPF BC & Yukon Branch registration deadline for 2024 has passed.

Please note that the registration deadline for the National Competition is June 1, 2024. 1st place provincial winners in ALL categories for Grades 11 and 12 will qualify for National.

Travel subsidies are available for any student who travelled from outside the Lower Mainland to attend provincials. 

Subsidies will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. You will need receipts. Should there be any unallocated funding, the remaining amount will be distributed first to those facing the highest outstanding travel expenses. Estimated amounts are based on past participation from a given region, but final amounts for 2024 may be adjusted based on demand.

Vancouver Island: estimate of $50 per participant
Interior: estimate of $200 per participant
North: estimate of $400 per participant
